Who We Are

LION GROUP was established in the 1930s and today, has operations in Malaysia, China, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, USA and Mexico. It is involved in the retail, property development, mining, steel, agriculture, computer and services sectors. Since 1992, the Group has ventured into China with operations in the retail and property businesses.

The Group has five companies listed on Bursa Malaysia with three in Singapore, two in Indonesia and one in Hong Kong. It has an annual group turnover of approximately RM 20 billion (US$ 6.6 billion) and provides employment for more than 24,000 people.

The Group’s investment in the retailing industry is through its chain of 132 Parkson department stores in Malaysia, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Myanmar.

Parkson has grown steadily to become one of the largest department store chains in Asia Pacific with plans to open 15-18 new stores a year, reaching 170 stores by 2015. This includes its first store in Cambodia to be opened in 2014 and seeking opportunities in new potential markets throughout the region. Parkson ventured into the Sri Lankan market by acquiring a stake in the country’s leading fashion retailer, Odel PLC in July 2012. It opened its first store in Myanmar in 2013. Through collaboration with PT Mitra Samaya, Indonesia, it operates 9 retail stores under the brand names of Centro Lifestyle Department Store and a Kem Chicks supermarket in Indonesia. Its first store under the Parkson brand name was opened in Medan, Indonesia in November, 2013.

Parkson’s China operations are listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange whilst its retail operations in South East Asia are listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange. The Group also owns and manages the KL Festival City shopping mall in Malaysia, and 8 shopping malls in China and 1 in Vietnam. The Group is involved in the trading of building materials, petroleum-based products and automotive components. It blends and distributes automotive and industrial lubricants under the Hi-Rev and T-Trax brands, and distributes various motor accessories under the Posim Group of Companies.
