Perform various system administration and support tasks including but not limited to:
Analysing and debugging system, services (daemons), communication and network-dependent processes.
Hardening of servers and maintaining the servers to a known and consistent standard.
Monitoring system status with respect to memory, CPU and storage utilization, and performing capacity planning.
Write, test and implement scripts to automate tasks using Shell scripts, Perl or Python.
Manage Linux (SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux) and Windows servers with a very small number of Solaris servers (about 70 percent of the servers run Linux).
Provide technical support and consultation services (both remote and on-site) related to Linux/Unix and Windows systems to the business, project manager, application owner, service owner, internal and/or external clients.
Install (include initial configuration), move (include remove), add, change (include configure and maintain) and standardise the server and the systems and services hosted on the server including database services and server-side applications/services.
Analyse, log, archive, track, prioritise and resolve both common and complex system matters (i.e. problems and issues) in a timely manner and escalate if and when necessary.
Ensure all open tickets are attended to and closed according to agreed service levels and prescribed standard processes, and ensure that clients are kept well informed of the progress made on outstanding tickets with issues.
Maintain and update configuration scripts, firewall rules, hardening checklist, security policy, architecture information (e.g. infographics and diagrams) and asset information.
Perform technical assurance for potential projects (including Proof of Concept and Pilot Run).
Recommend permanent and temporary solutions and next course of action to resolve problems and issues. Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and document RCA-based corrective action.
Develop and maintain documentation related to the installation, administration and maintenance of the servers, systems and services.
Research and evaluate alternative solutions and propose recommendations for implementation.
Work closely with team members and associated companies in other regions to resolve support issues.
Have intermediate understanding and/or experience with:
Database systems like PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle DB and Microsoft SQL.
Web technologies/services like Apache, IIS, Tomcat, JBoss, Glassfish, Weblogic, etc.
Clustering technologies and load-balancing setup (e.g. Round Robin and Random).
Virtualisation technologies like those from VMware and Microsoft.
Automation tools/engines like Ansible and Chef.
Bachelor or Master Degree in Computer Science, Electronic & Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent.
Minimum 3 years of relevant working experience.
Must be familiar with operation support on a global scale.
Flexible and willing to work in dynamic environment with client-driven projects and run-and-maintain business operations. Candidates are expected to communicate and collaborate with clients and colleagues in EU, North America and/or Asia-Pacific regularly.
Have solid analytical, interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
Independent, self-disciplined, self-organised, and able to learn and work under/with minimum supervision.
Certification is preferred and will have added advantage but not mandatory as relevant experience matters more.
Must have experience with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and/or Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and Windows Server.
Experience in hands on scripting.
