A day in the life

I'm a part of the Backend Operations team. Our main responsibility is to make sure that our platform is stable and scaleable. We’re also in charge of implementing new features for our platform. Another one of our frequent jobs is to help other teams with the automation of their processes. This helps to reduce required manual effort and makes the work of our colleagues a little bit easier. My days always bring me challenging and exciting projects from an engineering point of view.

Company culture

The best thing about Deriv company culture is team spirit. Everyone is willing to help if you face any issues. Also, it is really easy to reach out to anybody in the company, from any developer to the top management of the company. This openness has helped to make everyone feel welcome in the company.

Overcoming obstacles

The biggest challenge for me was the language barrier. This job is my first experience working in an international company but with my colleagues’ help and everyday practice, I’ve managed to learn how to express myself more clearly.

Facing COVID-19

During the lockdown, all employees were asked to work from home. All company processes were adjusted according to the pandemic situation. When it became possible to return back to the office, our company introduced COVID-19 guidelines with clear rules on how we should operate in the office, what distance should be between workspaces, and so on. This guideline helps to minimise the possibility of spreading the infection in the company.

The new normal

I don't see any significant difficulties. For software developers, there is not a big difference with or without the COVID-19 pandemic.
