A day in the life
There are 3 major aspects of my role in Deriv, which are Onboarding, Payroll and Benefits as well as managing the HR aspects of Expatriates' placement.
Onboarding is to determine appropriate pay rates and communicate the job offers to potential candidates, establish an onboarding process for new hires once the offer is accepted.
Payroll and Benefits basically involves me supervising the payroll team to ensure payments and benefits programs are processed correctly.
Managing the HR aspects of expatriates’ placement is to develop and implement policies and procedures for placing expatriates, oversee visa procurement, coordinating housing, benefits and compensation package, liaise with international agencies and government officials.
We encourage information to flow freely and ideas to be the driving force of efficiency and innovation. Our company has multiple platforms that act as a knowledge-sharing space. For example, we have our online training platform which acts as a one-stop resource Centre for all staff and we also encourage our colleagues from different departments to share their expertise/knowledge in the weekly townhall. This enables every department to access the information they need, when they need it, therefore speeding up response times.
To act according to the government’s announcement and the transition to remote work: we had a remote-work policy, but it was not designed to handle a situation where everybody would need to work remotely due to the lockdown announcement by the government. Thus, it is critical for us to respond fast and move quickly to switch to a remote work model. We need to ensure everyone is familiar with the technology and tools, communicate ground rules (e.g mandatory check on tracking system) and provide fast support to solve unexpected issues.
In order to maintain a safe work environment, the company has engaged additional cleaners to sanitise and maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the offices on a daily basis. In addition, the company has rent extra office space to ensure all employees keep social distancing while working in the office. Contingency plans and guidelines are also designed and communicated to the staff to build awareness regarding appropriate use of face masks, effective hand washing technique, frequent hand washing, respiratory etiquette and the importance of staying home when sick.
