Who We Are
Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) expands the boundaries of technology to make the most amazing experiences possible. You may know us for our processors, but we do so much more. From powering the latest devices and the cloud you depend on, to driving policy, diversity, sustainability and education, we create value for our stockholders, customers and society.
Intel Corporation chose Penang, Malaysia as its first offshore location outside of the United States in 1972. Intel’s initial investment in Malaysia has grown significantly since then and as a result, Malaysia’s operations has further expanded to Kulim, Kedah in 1996, becoming one of Intel’s most comprehensive sites.
Malaysia remains one of the largest Assembly Test Manufacturing (ATM) sites for Intel in the world. With ATM operations in Penang and Kulim, we are responsible for product assembly and testing, new technology introductions and high volume manufacturing. Electronic components such as microprocessors, Systems on a Chip (SoC) chipsets, Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) and tester boards all contribute further to the development of the Data Center, Internet of Things (IoT) and Client Computing markets. In Q3 ’2018, Kulim enabled additional 10K Cleanroom certified production floor space to manufacture modem products and future Embedded Multi-Die Interconnect Bridge microprocessors. Intel’s Systems Integration and Manufacturing Services site in Kulim is dedicated towards system testing and implementation of electronic components as part of our product development. This facility is known for its Test Tooling and System Integration, a process that ensures quality output, contributing towards the progress of ATM factories and Development Labs.
Enriching the lives of people is key to our purpose, and Intel Malaysia is at the forefront of working with local and international partners to bring smart and connected devices to all. As the Internet of Things (IoT) continues to evolve, we remain committed to being a key driver of change and growth. From being connected to the cloud to advanced data calculations for businesses, Intel Malaysia provides technologies and solutions that allow a seamless transition when embracing the IoT.
The Malaysia Design Centre (MDC) and the Programmable Solutions Group (PSG) make up Intel Malaysia’s design powerhouse. PSG is Intel Malaysia’s newest design center and primarily focuses on programmable solutions, delivering advanced, integrated products and solutions that are highly customizable to meet the needs of the ever-evolving market. These solutions range from low-cost, low-power Complex Programmable Logic Devices (CPLD) to high-end feature-rich FPGA and efficient power management solutions that can be found in every-day electronics.
With thousands of engineers handling advanced integrated design and development work, this collaboration enables MDC to harness large computing power for product testing and validation program development labs. Their research contributes to the development of new products and technological innovations with new designs for microprocessors, chipsets, motherboards, server boards and custom microchips.
The engineers from Intel Malaysia are part of the global development team working on the latest Intel® Processors. They contribute significantly to the design and development of products powered by Intel's latest processing technology. This highly-skilled workforce is a testament to Intel’s commitment in Malaysia as our operations move up the global value chain.
Malaysia also houses one of two Intel Corporation hubs for shared services. The Malaysian Shared Services Center (MSSC) manages the finances of Intel sites across Asia, Europe, Middle East and Africa. The center is also responsible for the planning and procurement of Intel’s global supply chain activities and responds to global technical assistance requests. This underscores the strategic value and capability that the Malaysia site provides to the global organization.
As a leader in corporate responsibility and sustainability, Intel also manufactures the world’s first commercially available “conflict-free” microprocessors. Additional information about Intel is available at newsroom.intel.com.
