Samsung is a South Korean multinational conglomerate headquartered in Samsung Town, Seoul. It is the largest South Korean business conglomerate, comprising numerous affiliated businesses, most of them are united under the Samsung brand.
Samsung was founded by Lee Byung-chul in 1938 as a trading company. Over the next three decades, the group diversified into areas including food processing, textiles, insurance, securities and retail. Samsung entered the electronics industry in the late 1960s and the construction and shipbuilding industries in the mid-1970s. Since being established in 1969, Samsung Electronics has grown into one of the world’s leading technology companies, and become recognised as one of the top 10 global brands.
In 2020, Samsung Electronics’ market capitalisation was recorded at USD 510 billion, supported by Sales of USD 207 billion and Operating Profit at USD 31 billion. Samsung Electronics is the 8th largest brand in the world by revenue, and the 5th largest brand in the world.
